The Southern Springs girls swim team earned three first-place finishes and nearly two more in a close 56-37 loss to Odessa-Montour on Tuesday in Poplar Ridge.
Kathryn Carter won the 200 individual medley (2:40.45) and Stephanie Morse took first in the 50 freestyle (28.04).
Carter and Morse nearly won the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle, respectively. Morse touched in at 1:02.62 in the 100 ,, while Carter came in second place (1:20.85).
“It was so close that the officials had to stop and try to figure out who won,” Southern Springs coach Sandy Carter said.
Also winning was the 200 medley relay team of Devon Balk, Kathryn Carter, Erin Mattoon and Stephanie Morse (2:17.10).
“Although we haven't won a meet yet, this team has improved their times individually,” Carter said. “We've had a lot of girls really improve this year.”
Southern Springs heads to Lansing on Thursday.
