Popular Glenview restaurant called a total fire loss

A stubborn extra-alarm fire this morning gutted Matty's Wayside Inn, a popular restaurant that began business in north suburban Glenview toward the end of Prohibition.

Glenview Fire Department Chief Wayne Globerger described the building as a total loss. He said firefighters had to fight the flames from outside the building since it was unsafe to do so from the inside.
